Setup

Step 1 of 2

24 × 16 m123

One complete 3-player group is shown. Use a server, moving receiver and waiting player. A flat marker identifies the arrival space and a wide gate the controlled-carry exit. One ball is active; the waiting player stays clear of the route.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Use a server, moving receiver and waiting player. A flat marker identifies the arrival space and a wide gate the controlled-carry exit. One ball is active; the waiting player stays clear of the route.
  • Play: The receiver makes a gentle curved approach, looks at the server and meets the pass near the arrival marker. Direct the first touch into the exit lane, then carry through the gate for one quality point. Do not stand on the marker waiting for the ball.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop after the gate and walk the ball back outside the route. Server becomes receiver, receiver waits and waiting player becomes server each attempt. Rest after 45 seconds; reverse the starting curve next bout.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 3 players. With up to 6, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Time the curve to meet a reachable delivery. The first contact should continue the movement into space rather than stop the body and ball square.
  • Safety: Ground service and controlled running, no defenders or contact. Use flat markers and keep return/waiting positions clear; do not send another ball until reset.

Progressions

  • Easier Walk the curve and serve only when the receiver has reached the arrival space.
  • Harder Vary the gentle delivery timing slightly so the receiver adjusts the curve; retain one ball and a clear exit.
