Setup

Step 1 of 2

20 × 16 m1234

One complete 4-player group is shown. One server faces a central receiver with two outlets beyond them. Use one ball. The receiver chooses the upper or lower outlet and communicates the intended exit before the first pass.

Coaching points

  • Setup: One server faces a central receiver with two outlets beyond them. Use one ball. The receiver chooses the upper or lower outlet and communicates the intended exit before the first pass.
  • Play: The server plays to the offered foot; the receiver sets the ball towards the chosen outlet and connects with a ground pass. One accurate receive-and-connect sequence scores one. The outlet returns the ball around the outside before the next repetition.
  • Reset and rotation: Rotate server, receiver and both outlet roles after three attempts. Stop for any loose-ball collection. Ask the receiver to choose a fresh outlet each repetition rather than following a fixed route.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 4 players. With up to 8, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Show the passer a clear receiving surface and scan the outlet before the first touch. Judge the delivery by how comfortably the receiver can continue.
  • Safety: No defender or rushed return. Ground service and clear outside return paths; reduce delivery pace if the first touch leaves the area.

Progressions

  • Easier Announce the outlet early and let the receiver settle the ball before connecting.
  • Harder The receiver selects and signals the outlet as the server prepares to pass, retaining enough time for a controlled first touch.
