Setup

Step 1 of 2

18 × 14 m12UP

One complete 3-player group is shown. Use a server, central receiver and teal cue-giver beyond the receiver, with two wide side exit gates. One ball starts at the server; the cue-giver points towards an exit before delivery.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Use a server, central receiver and teal cue-giver beyond the receiver, with two wide side exit gates. One ball starts at the server; the cue-giver points towards an exit before delivery.
  • Play: The receiver looks at the cue, opens towards that exit and guides the first touch into its route before carrying through. One controlled first-touch-and-exit earns one. The cue is fixed before the ball moves; there is no defender or reaction race.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop after the exit and return the ball outside the route. Rotate server, receiver and cue-giver each turn. Alternate the pointed exit and give a short rest after 45 seconds.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 3 players. With up to 6, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Scan before the pass, then look back at the ball. Set the first contact towards the indicated space rather than stopping square and needing several corrective touches.
  • Safety: Ground deliveries only, no defender or contact. Use flat gate markers and comfortable service; the cue-giver stays beyond the route and points before service.

Equipment

  • Ball · 2 per group, including a spare
  • Gate · 2 per group
  • Flat Marker · 4 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 3 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Show and name the exit well before the service; let the receiver rehearse without a ball.
  • Harder Use only the visual point and vary the chosen side between repetitions; never switch it after the pass starts.
