Setup

Step 1 of 2

18 × 16 m1212C

One complete 2-player group is shown. Two children have a ball each in separate marked lanes, each ending at its own secured empty mini goal. Give them numbers 1 and 2. The coach stands outside, checks both lanes and calls only one number at a time.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Two children have a ball each in separate marked lanes, each ending at its own secured empty mini goal. Give them numbers 1 and 2. The coach stands outside, checks both lanes and calls only one number at a time.
  • Play: The called child carries a few comfortable steps, settles the ball and places a ground shot. The other child stays still with the ball stopped. One controlled on-target attempt is a personal success; there is no race or comparison of finishing times.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop both lanes before collecting. Walk back along the outside, swap lane and number after two attempts each and rest after 45 seconds. The coach checks readiness before every new cue; nobody is eliminated.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 2 players. With up to 4, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Connect the cue to looking at an empty goal, then a balanced finish. Keep the signal simple and allow thinking time; encourage control through the last touch rather than sudden acceleration.
  • Safety: One shooter active at a time, ground strikes, no goalkeeper or defender. Keep collection separate and every other ball stopped. Use walking movement and stop if a child enters the wrong lane.

Equipment

  • Ball · 3 per group, including a spare
  • Mini Goal · 2 per group
  • Flat Marker · 12 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 2 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Say the child’s name and number together and let them finish from the stationary ball.
  • Harder Show the number visually instead of saying it, after demonstrating the cue; retain one active shooter and the same calm pace.

    Rebound Readiness

After a teammate’s shot has stopped, a controlled second-ball roll gives the waiting finisher a rebound-like read without a keeper collision.
