Setup

Step 1 of 2

24 × 18 mFinishClock11

One complete 2-player group is shown. Blue starts behind a stationary shooting ball in the upper lane, facing a secured empty mini goal. Red starts in a separate lower recovery lane with a flat endpoint marker. Red never enters the shooting lane, tackles or acts as a goalkeeper.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Blue starts behind a stationary shooting ball in the upper lane, facing a secured empty mini goal. Red starts in a separate lower recovery lane with a flat endpoint marker. Red never enters the shooting lane, tackles or acts as a goalkeeper.
  • Play: On a shared start signal, blue walks or gently jogs to the ball while red walks towards the recovery marker. Blue can place a ground shot before red arrives for one point. Red’s arrival ends the turn if no shot has been taken; blue stops safely instead of forcing a rushed finish.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop both lanes after the shot or recovery arrival. Retrieve outside the upper lane and exchange shooter and recovery roles. Adjust red’s starting distance to give a calm shooting opportunity; rest after three turns each. No player chases the other.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 2 players. With up to 4, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Look at both ball and target while approaching, then slow into a balanced strike. The visible recovery cue creates a decision to finish or safely stop; success never requires beating a person through contact.
  • Safety: Separate lanes, walking recovery, placed ground shots and no goalkeeper, defender challenge or contact. End the turn if balance is lost; keep the time cue generous and stop both players before retrieval.

Equipment

  • Ball · 2 per group, including a spare
  • Flat Marker · 1 per group
  • Mini Goal · 1 per group
  • Flat Marker · 12 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 2 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Red starts further from the endpoint and blue can pause beside the stationary ball before shooting.
  • Harder Vary red’s comfortable walking distance between turns so blue notices the cue and chooses the open moment; never increase speed or shorten the cue enough to rush contact.
