One complete 8-player group is shown. Two builders, two central receivers and two forward supports face two central markers. The markers stay in the middle pocket; builders and forward supports stay outside it. One ball starts with a builder.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Two builders, two central receivers and two forward supports face two central markers. The markers stay in the middle pocket; builders and forward supports stay outside it. One ball starts with a builder.
  • Play: Builders may exchange the ball while a receiver moves to become visible beyond a marker’s shoulder. A controlled reception in that new passing window earns one point. The receiver sends a safe ground pass to a forward support, who returns it outside the pocket for reset.
  • Reset and rotation: End after that forward pass or a marker interception. Markers return the ball after a win. Every 45 seconds rotate two receivers into marking roles and two outside supports into receiving; move remaining players around the outside roles.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 8 players. With up to 16, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: The receiver should observe both builder and marker before checking into view. Score the visible support offer rather than a memorised passing sequence.
  • Safety: Markers walk and intercept only; no body contact or tackles. Ground delivery, one active ball and stopped collection. Increase pocket space if receivers are crowded.

Progressions

  • Easier Markers stay still while receivers identify an open passing angle.
  • Harder Builders change the ball side before the receiver chooses which marker shoulder to move beyond.
