One complete 4-player group is shown. Use one ball with four players staggered along a clear diagonal route. Flat markers indicate arrival spaces, not queues or defenders.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Use one ball with four players staggered along a clear diagonal route. Flat markers indicate arrival spaces, not queues or defenders.
  • Play: The next receiver leaves their start as the passer opens a passing angle. Deliver on the ground into that movement, receive in stride and carry a few steps to serve the following runner. Complete two linked receptions for one quality point, then stop.
  • Reset and rotation: After each chain, the last receiver walks the ball back outside the route. Rotate each player forward one role; repeat from the opposite side next round. Do not start another ball until the route is clear.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 4 players. With up to 8, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Read the runner’s speed and play into reachable space; the receiver should adjust rather than chase an overhit ball.
  • Safety: One active ball, controlled ground service and no chasing through another lane. Keep the return walk outside the passing route.

Equipment

  • Ball · 2 per group, including a spare
  • Flat Marker · 2 per group
  • Flat Marker · 4 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 4 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Receivers walk their diagonal approach and stop before the pass arrives.
  • Harder Receivers vary their departure timing and the passer waits for the actual movement before releasing.
