One complete 6-player group is shown. Pairs occupy opposite ends of two routes. Two interceptors remain in the central strip; one service ball per pair. Receivers may move along their own end.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Pairs occupy opposite ends of two routes. Two interceptors remain in the central strip; one service ball per pair. Receivers may move along their own end.
  • Play: A completed pass across the strip scores one for that pair. Interceptors score one when they stop a pass; they return that ball to its starting end. Interceptors do not leave the strip or challenge a player.
  • Reset and rotation: Play 45-second rounds, then move a passing pair into the strip and send the old interceptors to the ends. Swap partner ends next round. Pause before fetching an escaped ball.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 6 players. With up to 12, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Show a passing angle before the ball is struck. Wait for a gap rather than kicking harder at a defender.
  • Safety: Controlled ground passes and interception only; keep spare balls behind the starting ends and stop all play for retrieval.

Equipment

  • Ball · 3 per group, including a spare
  • Flat Marker · 8 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 6 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Use one interceptor walking within the strip; the second observes and swaps in halfway through the round.
  • Harder Receivers change their end position before each pass, so the passer must reassess the available lane.
