Setup

Step 1 of 2

One complete 4-player group is shown. Two teal end servers face a blue receiver and red marker in the marked middle zone. Use one ball. The receiver starts facing the serving end; the marker chooses a side before the pass.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Two teal end servers face a blue receiver and red marker in the marked middle zone. Use one ball. The receiver starts facing the serving end; the marker chooses a side before the pass.
  • Play: Receive and choose: turn into clear space, carry beyond the middle zone and connect with the opposite end for one point; or return to the serving end without a point when the turn is covered. A marker interception earns one for red. Every outcome ends the repetition.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop, return both central players to the middle and serve from the opposite end next turn. Rotate receiver, marker and both servers every 45 seconds, then rest. No continuous keepaway follows.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 4 players. With up to 8, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Scan the marker and both exit spaces before receiving. The first touch should create separation for the turn; returning is a good decision when pressure closes both routes.
  • Safety: Walking marker and ground service only; interceptions of exposed ball, no occupied-foot tackling, contact or slide. End servers remain outside the central duel.

Progressions

  • Easier Keep the marker stationary and open one clear turning side.
  • Harder Let the marker choose a new starting side each turn, requiring a fresh receive-or-return decision at the same controlled pace.
