Setup

One complete 5-player group is shown. A server faces two blue attackers and two red defenders, with one secured mini goal at the far end and no goalkeeper. One ball is active. Defenders hold their starting positions until the first reception is controlled.

Coaching points

  • Setup: A server faces two blue attackers and two red defenders, with one secured mini goal at the far end and no goalkeeper. One ball is active. Defenders hold their starting positions until the first reception is controlled.
  • Play: The server delivers to either attacker and stays out. That receiver directs the first touch into usable space before a 2v2 begins. A ground goal earns one, but count it only when the starting reception stayed under control. A regain, ball out or goal ends the attack.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop, return the ball outside the route and reset all four playing roles. Rotate server → receiver → supporting attacker → red 1 → red 2 → server after each attempt; rest after 45 seconds. Begin the next attack only when every role is ready.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 5 players. With up to 10, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Prepare the first touch to see both defender and partner, then choose carry or release. The partner offers an angle after the initial contact rather than running into the receiver’s path.
  • Safety: Ground service and finishes, secured goal, no goalkeeper or contact. Defenders intercept exposed/travelling balls only; no occupied-foot tackle, slide or rushed 50–50 service.

Progressions

  • Easier Defenders walk and wait until the receiver has taken two controlled touches.
