Setup

Step 1 of 2

24 × 18 mGK1231

One complete 4-player group is shown. Green GK receives in a protected left keeper strip from blue 2; blue 3 offers the other outlet. Red 1 walks outside the strip to screen one passing route. The ball is deliberately kicked back by a teammate, so GK uses feet throughout.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Green GK receives in a protected left keeper strip from blue 2; blue 3 offers the other outlet. Red 1 walks outside the strip to screen one passing route. The ball is deliberately kicked back by a teammate, so GK uses feet throughout.
  • Play: Blue 2 passes gently back. GK checks the red screen, takes a settling touch into a clear angle and passes on the ground to the free blue outlet for one shared point. Red may intercept a travelling outlet pass but never enters the keeper strip or challenges feet. If both routes are screened, stop and reset rather than force a pass.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop at the outlet reception, interception or ball out. Rotate all four through keeper, outlets and screen each two returns; rest after 45 seconds. Change the return side between attempts. No shot follows.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 4 players. With up to 8, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Look before the back pass arrives, keep the first touch in the protected strip and reopen the outlet angle. This is keeper back-pass play: no hand collection of the deliberate teammate kick.
  • Safety: Adult supervision on level clear ground. Gentle service only; agree readiness before release. Stay on feet: no diving, jumps, contact, slide, contested catch or fast close shot. Stop a missed ball rather than chase. Retrieve and rotate only while play is stopped.

Equipment

  • Ball · 2 per group, including a spare
  • Flat Marker · 6 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 4 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Red stays at an announced position and the free outlet names itself before the back pass.
  • Harder Red chooses one screen while the return travels; GK reads it and uses an extra settling touch if needed. Retain the protected strip.
