One complete 4-player group is shown. Green GK starts with a stationary ball for a simulated goal kick. Blue 2 offers a nearer right-side receiving zone; blue 3 offers a farther lower zone. Red 1 is a stationary route screen, never a challenger. Both receivers call readiness.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Green GK starts with a stationary ball for a simulated goal kick. Blue 2 offers a nearer right-side receiving zone; blue 3 offers a farther lower zone. Red 1 is a stationary route screen, never a challenger. Both receivers call readiness.
  • Play: GK identifies which distant receiver has a clear ground route and plays a controlled kick only as far as they can reach accurately without straining. One controlled reception is success. A screened or unrealistic option is refused: stop and move the receiver nearer before restarting. No one races for a missed pass.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop after one kick or refusal. Collect outside the delivery route and rotate all four roles every two attempts, then rest after 45 seconds. Swap receiver distances and screen position only between attempts. Limit repeated long kicks; shorten the area when technique fades.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 4 players. With up to 8, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Match delivery distance to the available space and personal control. Read receiver and screen before choosing; a safe nearer option is preferable to a forced powerful kick.
  • Safety: Adult supervision on level clear ground. Gentle service only; agree readiness before release. Stay on feet: no diving, jumps, contact, slide, contested catch or fast close shot. Stop a missed ball rather than chase. Retrieve and rotate only while play is stopped. No lifted kick, heading, contested receiver, maximum-range effort or repeated power-kicking workload.

Progressions

  • Easier Bring both receivers closer and name the available ground route before kicking.
  • Harder Place the stationary screen on either route between attempts so GK selects the realistic receiver. Difficulty is decision variety, never extra power or aerial contests.
