22 × 18 m123

One complete 3-player group is shown. Green GK faces blue 2 upper and blue 3 lower beside a secured left goal. Blue 2 holds the sole ball for a gentle chest-height hand service; blue 3 is the ground-roll outlet. There is no shooting attacker or second live ball.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Green GK faces blue 2 upper and blue 3 lower beside a secured left goal. Blue 2 holds the sole ball for a gentle chest-height hand service; blue 3 is the ground-roll outlet. There is no shooting attacker or second live ball.
  • Play: After readiness, GK secures one comfortable standing hand service, then rolls gently to blue 3. Blue 3 stops the ball and calls loss to represent a turnover. GK makes a small controlled recovery from the release position to face the next server and sets. A secure catch, accurate roll and settled reset earn one complete-sequence point. The next service waits.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop once GK is set and the ball stationary. Blue 3 returns the sole ball to blue 2 while stopped; rotate all three roles after two sequences and rest after 45 seconds. A missed catch ends that attempt without a follow-up service.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 3 players. With up to 6, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Follow the whole change of responsibility: secure, choose the outlet, release, then prepare to defend again. The reset is assessed before another ball arrives; speed is never the score.
  • Safety: Adult supervision on level clear ground. Gentle service only; agree readiness before release. Stay on feet: no diving, jumps, contact, slide, contested catch or fast close shot. Stop a missed ball rather than chase. Retrieve and rotate only while play is stopped.

Equipment

  • Ball · 2 per group, including a spare
  • Goal · 1 per group
  • Flat Marker · 4 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 3 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Pause after catch and after release so GK names the next responsibility before moving.
  • Harder Blue 2 shifts to a nearby safe position while blue 3 holds the stopped ball, so GK resets to the new angle before another service. Keep the full stop.
