One complete 4-player group is shown. A blue pair and red pair have separate lanes and secured empty goals at the far end. Each pair has one ball. The coach stands outside holding matching bibs and shows only one team colour at a time; the other pair waits with its ball stopped.

Coaching points

  • Setup: A blue pair and red pair have separate lanes and secured empty goals at the far end. Each pair has one ball. The coach stands outside holding matching bibs and shows only one team colour at a time; the other pair waits with its ball stopped.
  • Play: The signalled pair identifies its own target, connects a ground pass to its teammate and chooses a placed finish for one team quality point. The receiver calls for the ball and can settle it. There is no competing race, shared goal or defender; the non-signalled team stays still.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop both lanes before collection. Exchange passer and finisher after each turn and alternate the active team. After two turns each, rest and exchange lanes while keeping colour and own target clear. The next signal waits for everyone to reset.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 4 players. With up to 8, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Notice the team cue together and communicate who receives before moving the ball. The target belongs to the active team; quality of the pass should allow a calm finish instead of a hurried shot.
  • Safety: One team active at a time, separated lanes and ground strikes only. No goalkeeper, contact or aerial work. Secure goals and stop both teams before any collection or lane change.

Equipment

  • Ball · 3 per group, including a spare
  • Mini Goal · 2 per group
  • Flat Marker · 12 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 4 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Name the team while showing its bib and let the receiving teammate wait near the target.
  • Harder Use only the demonstrated visual cue and allow the receiver to choose a clear angle within their own lane before the pass; keep one active team.
