One complete 4-player group is shown. Two blue attackers start with one ball facing two red defenders and a marked right-end zone. Red 1 begins nearest the ball; red 2 begins deeper and diagonally inside. There are no goals, goalkeeper or fixed passing sequence.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Two blue attackers start with one ball facing two red defenders and a marked right-end zone. Red 1 begins nearest the ball; red 2 begins deeper and diagonally inside. There are no goals, goalkeeper or fixed passing sequence.
  • Play: Blue may pass or carry at walking pace and scores one by stopping the ball under control in the end zone. The nearest red adjusts the approach to discourage forward play while the partner covers the inside route. Red earns one for a clean interception or safely forcing the ball out. If the ball switches, call and exchange pressure and cover roles.
  • Reset and rotation: Stop after either score or ball out. Reset from the left and rotate both pairs through attacking and defending every two episodes. Rest after 45 seconds and vary the starting ball side; retrieve outside the area while stopped.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 4 players. With up to 8, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: The covering player sees the ball and partner, remaining far enough back to deal with a pass beyond first pressure. Ask who is nearest after the switch and which route the second player now protects.
  • Safety: Ground passes only. Walking opposition may intercept travelling or exposed balls, never tackle an occupied foot, slide, push or force contact. Stop when routes converge; collect and change roles only with play stopped.

Equipment

  • Ball · 2 per group, including a spare
  • Flat Marker · 6 per group for field and zone corners, in addition to pictured markers
  • Bib · 4 per group; colours match the pictured roles

Progressions

  • Easier Use stationary attackers for the first pass and pause so red can name pressure and cover.
  • Harder Blue chooses either a pass or controlled carry from a different initial angle; red communicates its role change while retaining walking pressure.
