One complete 6-player group is shown. Three blue face three red in the middle between two protected end zones. Blue attacks the right end and red the left. There are no goals or goalkeeper; only the ball carrier may enter a scoring zone.

Coaching points

  • Setup: Three blue face three red in the middle between two protected end zones. Blue attacks the right end and red the left. There are no goals or goalkeeper; only the ball carrier may enter a scoring zone.
  • Play: Pass and carry to find a gap. Carrying across the end-zone line and stopping the ball there earns one; a pass into the zone does not score. Defenders may intercept in the middle but must not enter either zone. The controlled stop ends play.
  • Reset and rotation: After a point or ball out, the other team restarts in a clear middle space. Use 45-second bouts, rest and swap ends and first carrier. All six stay involved; collect balls only with play stopped.
  • Numbers: The diagram shows 6 players. With up to 12, use a second complete group in a separate area. Odd spare players rest off the area and rotate into a playing role every 45 seconds; everyone has equal turns.
  • Coach focus: Use reachable touches near a defender and a slightly longer touch into open space. Reduce the touch before entering the protected zone so the stop remains controlled.
  • Safety: No tackling, contact or sliding; defenders intercept travelling balls only. Protected zones are free of challenges. No timed finish or goal collection is required.

Progressions

  • Easier Use walking defence and wider protected zones while maintaining a controlled end stop.
  • Harder Vary the defensive screen so the carrier chooses when to retain, pass or enter; keep both zones protected.

    Touchline Restart Choice

Two receivers coordinate support for a stationary touchline restart; the passer selects a safe first ground delivery and each reception ends the episode.
